Itzal is a mellow fella of about one year of age (10/14/2010). His name means 'shadow' as he liked staying in the shadows when he first arrived. Itzal and his sister Runa were found in a ditch at the side of a road. Itzal has come out of his shell greatly and is comfortable with other people, but he's not an "all-over-you" type of greeter. He loves lap time and getting rubbed and hugged.

He is crate-trained, leash-trained and house-trained in his foster home. He has started obedience training and does "sit" and "down" with a small treat. He loves to carry stuff around - especially soft toys and he has a few special balls that he likes to chase after when it's yard play time.

He is a sweet fella, who enjoys walking around the local parks and jumping in the car to go for a ride! He loves to play wrestle and chase after the other foster pups, too! He just has a wonderful all around mellow temperament.

He is good with other dogs/puppies and would do well with a female canine companion, though out and about he thinks he can be a bit bossy, so needs a controlled introduction to a new friend. He likes watching the cats very closely and when possible steal their toys.

He's been neutered, dewormed, up to date with age appropriate vaccinations, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.

Itzal has hip displasia and has had the surgery on the right side that was causing he great discomfort. He is now romping and playing quite a bit. He will not be a jogging companion, but he loves to go on walks.
If you are interested in helping with the costs of his surgery please go directly to our website, click on Animals, than Itzal - and there is a "Sponsorship" button.

If you are interested in 2 dogs, Itzal and Runa have bonded quite well and now both have had hip-displasia surgery - they are a pair in so many ways!

They can be adopted separately.
